Student Engagement, Development & Training Unit (SEDTU)
Previously known as HIV/AIDS Unit
The Student Engagement, Development & Training Unit (SEDTU) offer a wide range of services to our student community across all our campuses. These services include a robust peer education program, HIV testing, screening for sexually transmitted infections and tuberculosis, blood pressure, blood glucose screening services through our testing venues and our Mobile Wellness Services.
We have an internship program where students are given workplace experiences to prepare them for the workplace. Other services include mass awareness campaigns, curriculum integration, research and community engagement activities.
We work closely with all departments within the institution, with Higher Health (previously known as HEAIDS), Western Cape Department of Health, Department Social Development, Department of Justice and various local Not for Profit organizations such as RapeCrisis Centre, Sonke Gender Justice, TB HIV Care, Partners in Sexual Health and many more to bring the best services to you as a student.
Aim of the Student Engagement, Development & Training Unit (SEDTU)
To empower students through transformative engagements, capacity development, training and wellness initiatives that enhance student success, promote holistic wellbeing and growth as future graduates.
Vision
To be the epicentre of excellence in Student Engagement, Training & Development Programs at higher education institutions in Africa.
Mission
Ensure that high impact awareness, training and development initiatives, programs and services are accessible to all students within the institution. Through our programs such as Peer Education and other leadership development programs, build capacity and develop young leaders who will contribute in making a difference in society and within their communities. Ensure a conducive environment where students can engage freely about HIV & AIDS, gender-based violence, alcohol and substance abuse and other topical issues that affect them. Encourage innovation and research that is relevant to our field which will contribute to the reduction of social ills within society.
