Directorate Research Development
The Directorate Research Development (DRD) Office forms part of the Divisions within the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research Technology Innovation and Partnerships (DVC: RTIP). Its mandate is to, in conjunction with all Divisions, Faculties, Institutes, Entities, and across the institution and CPUT communities, to develop, implement, manage, support, administer, and enhance the research management, development and administration in the direction to improve the services and support of the scholarly. The Directorate Research Development is organised in the following Units:
- Research Management
- Research Grants Management
- Research Training & Capacity Development
- Research Integrity
- Research Communication and Marketing
- Special Projects
Each of the other mentioned units has well qualified and service-orientated staff that are competent to assist and support staff through research grants management, research finance administration, research outputs and publications management, application of the Research and Information Management System (RIMS), research training and capacity development, and recognition of research excellence by means of annual research awards in areas of publications, postgraduate supervision and industry funding. To further support research through responsible conduct and good practices by promoting and focussing on research integrity and ethics.
The Office of the Directorate Research Development has embarked upon a special project to gain an understanding of the origins and nature of the naming of CPUT’s campuses, satellite campuses, lecture halls, laboratories, open spaces and streets. This special project will take the form of a strategic research project with a suitable researcher working in the Office of the Director.
Another strategic function within the Directorate is that the Directorate Research Development represents the university on the Cape Higher Education Consortium (CHEC)
