Highlighted Activities and Projects

The activities of the Centre include research projects, such as the “Rooibos Exercise Study”. This continues to be a flagship project, led by Prof Davies of the CSBTR, in collaboration with the Applied Microbial & Health Biotechnology Institute (AMHBI) at CPUT. A large-scale project in the planning phase is the sport mega-event impact study that will focus on the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027, in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe.

We host academic conferences, and will co-host the World Association of Sport Management (WASM) global conference in March 2026.

We work with industry partners on projects, such as the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS).

We have a number of international research collaborations with other institutions globally. We participate in the F’SATI agreement at CPUT that supports scientific partnership with selected universities in France.
