The students included second-year Bachelor of Education students, Minke Bosch and Jana Louw. Zoe Davids, and Paige Booyse, who are third-year students, as well as Leske Brand and Benno Prins who are fourth-year students.

This event served as a platform for Mathematics educators and subject advisors to share innovative practices and ideas to enhance teaching and learning in Mathematics.

The seminar, themed "Mathematics Teachers as Innovators – Sharing of Practice", aimed to foster a collaborative platform where mathematics teachers and subject advisors could share ideas, innovative practices, and teaching strategies to enhance learning outcomes. The seminar was opened with a presentation on a Lesson Study based on the Japanese Model of Teacher Learning by Western Cape Education Department Mathematics Curriculum, Advisor, Lizette Booys.

Senior Mathematics Lecturer, Dr Rolene Liebenberg Senior Lecturer Mathematics led presentation by Zoe Davids and Paige on Local and Global Visualisation in Pictorial Patterns.

Liebenberg Senior also led Leske and Benno when they made a presentation on Exploring the Ellipse in the Intermediate Phase. She also assisted Jana and Minka when they presented on Transformational Approach to Geometry.

The seminar also highlighted the role of CPUT in supporting pre-service teachers through collaborative platforms like this one. Liebenberg said the seminar was part of the University’s efforts to position itself as a hub for in-service teacher development, “providing a strong foundation for future educators to thrive”.

“This first-of-its-kind seminar marks the beginning of what promises to be a dynamic and impactful collaboration between CPUT and the broader teaching community, ensuring that educators have the skills and resources needed to navigate the challenges of teaching mathematics in a rapidly changing educational landscape,” Liebenberg remarked.
