A Global Collaboration

CPUT joins an elite group of five founding institutions—including the University of Saskatchewan, Georgia National University SEU, TU Wien, and Investe Piauí—to partner with MIT in shaping a transformative vision for innovation-driven entrepreneurship education. This collaboration aims to equip students and educators with tools, strategies, and a global network to tackle the world's most pressing challenges through entrepreneurial solutions.

Learning from the Best

From January 13-17, 2025, representatives from CPUT - Prof Driekie Hay-Swemmer, Mr Luvuyo Kakaza, and Dr Xena Cupido - participated in an intensive week-long training in Disciplined Entrepreneurship Education. This was led by two global thought leaders:

  • Prof. Bill Aulet: Renowned educator, author, and global pioneer in entrepreneurship, Prof. Aulet has transformed the field with his acclaimed 24-step framework outlined in his book, Disciplined Entrepreneurship.
  • Paul Cheek: As Executive Director of the Martin Trust Center, Mr. Cheek brings extensive expertise in innovation-driven ventures, having co-founded multiple successful companies and advanced entrepreneurship curricula at MIT.

Pioneering a New Approach at CPUT

The training marked the beginning of an exciting journey for CPUT. The core principles of the programme - experiential learning, mentorship, collaboration, and iterative experimentation - will soon be introduced to staff and students at CPUT. This initiative will create pathways for students to develop entrepreneurial skills, connect with industry leaders, and gain access to a global network of innovators.

MIT has generously provided CPUT and the other founding members with the resources needed to implement this transformative programme.

Building a Legacy of Impact

CPUT envisions this collaboration as a foundation for cultivating innovation and entrepreneurship in South Africa and beyond. With the support of GLEEN, the university is poised to inspire and train the next generation of entrepreneurs who will drive meaningful change on a global scale.
