Quantum Physics Research Group

This is a research group within the Department of Electrical, Electronic, and Computer Engineering at CPUT. The group, led by physicist Dr Kessie Govender, will investigate and develop expertise in quantum-based technologies, such as quantum communications and quantum computing and investigate more fundamental issues related to cold atoms and Bose-Einstein Condensates. A laboratory is being developed for the laser cooling of atoms and the subsequent development of quantum information processing components. The group collaborates with researchers at the University of Stellenbosch, iThemba labs, and the National Metrology Institute of South Africa (NMISA).
