Explanation of the process for exemption/recognition/RPL

If a student has completed the same subject or a similar subject with a minimum of 80% content overlap within the previous 10 years, they may apply for exemption/recognition.

If the subject was completed more than 10 years prior, or if the student feels they have gained the required knowledge other than through completing the academic subject then the student is advised to apply for RPL.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process of identifying your knowledge and skills against a qualification or part thereof. The process involves the identification, mediation, assessment and acknowledgement and skills obtained through informal, non-formal and/or formal learning.

All credit applications are submitted for approval to the Senex Committee.

Please note that you have to be a registered student with CPUT and registered for the subject to be able to apply for the Credits/Exemptions/RPL.
