Entrepreneurship and Business Management

Entrepreneurship and Business Management

South Africa’s National Development Plan 2030 (NDP) calls for entrepreneurship training to build a strong economy for South Africa. Equally, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations make a strong call for quality education and sustainable economic growth, especially for developing economies. All these serve as reminders of what we should be doing to better our world. To achieve these requires interventions across the value chain. An integral part of this value chain is the university. At the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, our approach to teaching entrepreneurship embraces the entrepreneurial ecosystem's core values.

Entrepreneurs are the backbone of any economy. Their innovative and creative practices bring about small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMEs).

In South Africa and many parts of the world, the rate at which SMEs fail is a cause for concern. Enrolling in any of our programmes allows you to get creative and churn out innovative ideas on how we can stop the inglorious demise of SMEs.

Many of our graduates have gone on to set up enterprising firms – in various sectors. Today, several of them are labour employers, contributing immensely to the economy of South Africa. Many others are employed in government, the private sector and academia. Essentially, entrepreneurship has the potential to overcome most of the pressing problems that the world faces today, and as such, our qualifications can benefit several sectors.

Our vision is to become the heartbeat of entrepreneurial, socioeconomic, and business development education in Africa.

Our mission, therefore, is to create and maintain an enabling environment where, through teaching, learning, research, and scholarship, our students and staff, in harmony with the community and industry, can develop and apply entrepreneurial and business development skills toward the socioeconomic upliftment of Africa.
