Vice-Chancellor Prof Chris Nhlapo has accepted a request by Higher Education and Training Minister Dr Blade Nzimande to serve on a Ministerial Task Team, which will provide support in terms of the policy review on student funding.
Following a presentation to Cabinet earlier this year, it was agreed that an immediate policy review has to be undertaken to provide short and long-term policy funding solutions, the Minister stated in a letter to the Vice-Chancellor.
The Department of Higher Education and Training, with the support of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme, is undertaking the necessary technical work to support the review.
The Minister decided to establish a Task Team to support this review work in the short term so that he can be advised in the process by sector experts.
