Industry is looking for a new breed of graduates says Dr Ntokozo Mthembu.
A senior specialist at the Industrial Development Corporation, Mthembu told graduates that employers are looking for individuals who are teachable and who are always willing to learn new skills.
He says companies are not looking for people who feel entitled to a promotion simply because they have a degree.
“You have to be willing to start at the bottom and work your way to the top.”
An engineer by profession, Mthembu says CPUT has done its part by skilling graduates but that it was up to each individual to prove to the world that they can and are willing to play a key role in industry.
“Don’t be afraid to network, consult your peers and try new things,” he says.
He warned graduates that they will face many obstacles in their careers, but that they should learn from it.
This morning students who completed various programmes in the Faculty of Business will graduate at the Multipurpose Hall in Cape Town.
